After having a mini-Christmas on the 22nd, Sarah and I packed our bags and made it safely to Orlando on the 23rd. We had a great time, and the weather was exponentially better than it was here in Jersey. We had most of Christmas Eve to relax before we made our triumphal return to All Saints Church (where we got married) for their Christmas Eve service. Later that night I was introduced to the Tomlinson tradition of Breakfast for Dinner on Christmas Eve, which included some very yummy homemade perogies (sp?).
Christmas Day started around 8:30am with a riddle that Santa left, which eventually led to Ice Cream makers! Other presents included Duke basketball tickets for their game against St. John’s in Madision Square Garden! 80 degrees Friday meant golf for the boys while Sarah ran all over Orlando to visit seveal dear friends. Saturday may have been the highlight of the weekend, at least for Sarah, when we got to see FSU blow out Wisconsin in the Champs Sports bowl. Sarah’s good friend Kristin and her family also came to the game and tailgated with us. Which takes us to Sunday, which came very fast. It was hard to believe that we were headed back to New Jersey again. We made it back, and Sarah is back at work, and I’m doing some reading for my Jan term class, which starts back on Monday. That’s only a quick rundown of what went on. Sarah’s (more deatailed) take on the week will follow shortly, as will pictures from all the festivities.
last friday, i drove to philly and picked up sally for a weekend of fun! we came back and had a later dinner and played an awesome jeopardy dvd game! (sally won, in case you were wondering.) saturday, salpal was able to see me in action as she came to My Gym and watched a “mighty mite” class. then we grabbed some lunch and came back to the apt… saturday night, we introduced sal to our neighbors downstairs, rob and megan, as well as wii fit. you can check out some video below of rob and nick playing the hula hoop game. i had to get a video, because a picture would not have done it justice (p.s. please listen to rob’s comment at the end of the video of nick… this is why we love him!!)! sunday was wonderful. went to church and heard a missionary from indonesia talk. it was powerful… he encouraged us that god DID have a plan for out lives. that sounds so simple, but its life-changing when you really believe it. sal and i made some yummy dinner sunday night and then played scattagories after dinner! it was so beautiful to have her here.
baked ziti, crescent rolls, and green beans! yum.
tues, wed and thursday was pretty quiet. tuesday night i had a work holiday party, wed night we had dessert with some friends from church… then, kelly came!
time with kelly was so refreshing. i went to newark to get her at the airport, and we were pretty busy the whole time she was here! i took her out for a christmas dinner to houlihans, followed by a GOOD milkshake from cheeburger, cheeburger. we had plenty to talk about because she is newly engaged!! i am so happy for my sister! friday we actually went and looked at wedding dresses which was surreal for her, and SO fun for me. we grabbed lunch then ran some other errands before heading in for the night. it actually started snowing early friday… then turned into rain, so we were ready to just be warm! i made dinner and we just took it easy and AGAIN played scattagories. she left this morning which was sad about but it literally was the most perfect 36 hours… such a blessing to have kel here.
thank you sal and kel for being here with us!!!
in 3 days we will finally be heading back to florida for christmas! i am so excited to see my family, and not have to put on 83 layers, and go swimming 🙂 it will be good to be “home for christmas.”
i’ll leave you with a photo of a present under, more like next to, the tree from nick to me… i LOVE gifts, so even if this is just a bunch of rocks, nick has done a good job in building the anticipation! we’ll be doing our first christmas together monday night, so i get to open it in two days! im so excited! merry christmas to everyone!!
I think the title says it all. Last night I turned in my last assignment of the semester, which was a theology paper on different views of the Eucharist. I spent most of the last week and half or so studying for Old Testament, which was on Tuesday, and Greek, which was on Wednesday, but now they’re behind me. No guarantee on grades, just that they’re done. So what, you may ask, am I going to do with all my free time? I’ve picked up a few more hours at the library next week, and of course, will try catch up on the sleep I’ve lost over the last week or so. My Jan term class is Presbyterian History and Theology and I’ve discovered that there is quite a load of books on the syllabus for a three week class, so I’ll probably also try and get ahead on some school reading.
I also signed up for my Spring classes this past week:
Intro New Testament
Fantasy Literature and Moral Formation
The first three are pretty typical seminary classes. The fourth class is an Education class, one of which is required to graduate. I’m excited about that class because, for one, reading fiction will be a good break from the rather dense readings which otherwise surround me. Also, a lot of the book on the syllabus are books which I’ve read and love, including The Hobbit, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, and Harry Potter. My May term class is Leading Small Group Bible studies, which I think will be very practical training for the ministry.
hey friends. nick has had every intention of adding some thoughts, but because of a huge final tomorrow, another one wednesday, and a paper due on friday, he has passed along the duties to me until the storm passes.
SO. the past week has been a good one. last friday we had date night and i surprised nick by taking him to a concert about 1 hour southeast of here on the jersey shore. it was a christmas concert by shane and shane, bethany dillon, and phil wickham. they are all people we have loved listening to so it was so great to get to see them live. the weekend included studying for nick, working for me, a 19 degree low, a dusting of snow saturday night, and a chill day on sunday. tonight we have been blaring the christmas music while i have worked on our christmas cards and nick studied.
as you can see, our life has been not too exciting lately, but honestly, thats something we’re thankful for! in the midst of christmas craziness it is so nice to have some down time. my wonderful friend sally comes to visit on friday, followed by my sweet sister kelly next week! so needless to say, it will be amazing to have such good friends visiting.
because each entry is not quite complete without a reference to college football… some exciting news is that fsu is playing in a bowl in orlando on dec 27, which amazingly happens to be one of the 5 days we will be there! champ sports bowl here we come! thanks noles for letting me see you play one more time this year 🙂

wed nov 26: reunions! i LOVE reunions. i spend the morning with katie satterwhite which was so encouraging, then nick and i went to lunch with linds, sal, and richard at hero house, yummy! and then nick took care of a flat tire we had on the way down, while i spend the afternoon with my favorite group of 12-13 year old girls! from 2-6 we talked about life, played capture the flag, watch our wedding video, and just loved each other! it was beautiful. the evening was spent having a fantastic dinner with nicks family, and then playing basketball with david and brad across the street! SUCH a great day.

sun nov 30: 1st pres, winston salem!!!! have i mentioned i love reunions?! we were both able to see soooo many wonderful people, and alot of the youth i became close with last year. it just lifted us up do be back in that awesome community, even if only for a day. on the way out of town we went to lunch with the french’s who were my AMAZING host family last year. it was so good to see them!! then, we braved the rain and the traffic to arrive safely in new jersey around 1AM. good times.

only thing to speak of from the last couple days is our new christmas tree! its awesome. we went to home depot (we had a gift card!!) and went to town. christmas music has been on ever since, the nativity is out, and presents are under the tree! nick will prob add more to these thoughts, but we at least wanted to get an update on! yay for christmas time…
