DISNEY WEDDING!

oh my goodness, oh my goodness! my baby brother is married! sorry for the lengthy absence in the blog world, but we’ve been super busy! we’re both working, and then last week we left for orlando on tuesday night! and then the craziness began…

wednesday: my mom and i enjoyed getting mani/pedis in the morning, grabbing firehouse for lunch (MY FAVORITE!), and then i met up with the bridesmaids at the magic kingdom for a girls night. i had an AWESOME time at the park and with kathy. my favorite part was going on buzz lightyear and finally figuring out how to score 999,999!

nick was a part of the bachelor party. my dad had the guys over to watch braveheart and eat pizza, then surprised them with a stretch escalade which was HUGE. they drove over to tampa where they saw the rays beat the phillies. before the game they were able to go on the field and watched the game from a restaurant in center field. it was pretty fun night for both of us!

thursday: the day began with the bridesmaids luncheon for me. mrs. ruta hosted it and it was beautiful! nick went bowling with the boys and then we all met up for the rehearsal. the rehearsal dinner was that night and it was at american adventure in epcot. we had a yummy all-american dinner, watched the slideshow, and then grabbed some ponchos and watched illuminations, the fireworks show. it was SO fun… we enjoyed hanging out with family as well as my old friends that i grew up with at church, shannon and her boyfriend andy, becca and her husband earl, and matt and his wife natalie. we laughed and laughed and laughed… SUCH a great night.

friday: THE BIG DAY! my mom and i went a got our hair done at a funky salon in winter park before meeting up with the boys (my dad, david, and nick) for some bubbalous bodacious bar-b-que…. then we topped it off with twistee treat of course! we then headed out to the grand floridian to finish getting ready and take lots of pictures. we were also able to see nick’s parents who came down for the wedding which was such a special treat! the wedding itself was magical, to say the least. my brother lost it as his bride walked down the aisle (he is SO sweet!), and then recovered and made it through the ceremony. the reception was breath-taking. every detail was amazing and perfect! we danced the night away with friends and family. i won’t go into details, but i will say the nick has an inner dancer that came out of no where. he took part in a village people reenactment of the YMCA while wearing a headdress. it was priceless!

side note: because the caldows (kathy’s family) are HUGE cubs fans… they played this song at the reception twice and it is now FOREVER stuck in my head. listen to it, but again, i warn you, you are likely to fall asleep to it tonight!

saturday: you would think after all of that things would calm down… but not really. we were able to get some sleep before have a cookout with alot of our family who came from out of town. we enjoyed my dad’s cooking as well as the pool, which i had been waiting for all week! then, on saturday night, david and kathy had a dessert party for the out of town guests and we enjoyed seeing them again as well as watching wishes, the fireworks show.

all in all, it was such a memorable weekend. i love being with my brother and new sister-in-law! and am so happy for them. there is nothing like being home. i’ll leave you guys with the poem i wrote for my brother and read at the rehearsal dinner. i love you brother!

A Poem for My Brother

My dearest brother, a poem I have written,
On the night before you are wed, to the one with whom your smitten.
I will use each letter of brother and go one by one,
Just like for my rehearsal dinner, you had done.
I will start at the beginning, the very best place to start…
For it all began after all, with one simple fart.
B, or course is for brother, which you are to me.
And I am you older sister, and ALWAYS will be.
R is for referee, and I was lucky to see,
Many games in which you were, so quick to give a T!
O is for Orlando, our home sweet home,
You’ll now experience true winter, which I have come to know.
T is for Teacher, I’m sure you won’t be a bore,
As you impart your wisdom, remember pi is 3.14.
H is for humble, you’re so quick to care,
Kathy is so blessed, for her burdens you will share.
E is for endurance, as you’ve waited patiently for this girl,
You’ve loved her, visited her, and even watched her twirl.
R is for resilient, which I think suits you best.
Marriage is a journey, and I’m sure you’ll pass the test.

Bibliophiles Rejoice

Hey Everybody.  Sarah kindly reminded me this afternoon that it’s been a loooong time since I posted anything.  I told her she does such a fantastic job updating the blog that writing anything always seems to slip my mind.  So what’s going on?  A picture says a thousand words:

So this is basically what I do from 9-5 everyday.  I even worked 6 days this week, and finally understand a little better what Sarah goes through every week.  People turn in books, or pile them up like you see here, and then I get to put them back.  Unfortunately, reading the books while I put them back is not in my job description, so I have to refrain from that until after work.  Getting to work has also been fun, especially since it’s rained what feels like everyday for the past two weeks (except of course it’s not raining today since I don’t have to go anywhere).   I don’t have a car and Sarah is working, so I’ve been riding my bike or walking to school, and I’ve learned that great rain gear is pretty worthless if you’re wearing tennis in the pouring rain.  But the bike/walk time to school has given me a great chance to catch up on a free history of rome podcast that I found a while back.  Sarah makes fun of me, but I would recommend it.

Sarah and I have also spent a lot of time playing Hot Shots Golf on our recently acquired Playstation 2 (Thanks David!).  Sarah gets tired of losing to me, but  I keep telling her that it builds character.  She, of course, always appreciates the input.

Also, happy flag day today, which reminds me of something I meant to post last week.  I thought about making this a separate post, but I’m not good with the blog so this was easier.  Forgive the abrupt transition from the flippant to the serious. D-Day was June 6th, so if you didn’t remember it then, think about the sacrifices made for us that day.  The beach in Normandy is the most powerful place I’ve ever been, and I can’t help but think back to the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan.  Here are a few of my pictures:

Sorry I was late on that, but better late than never, right?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!  And remember, go Magic tonight, and especially go JJ.

forgot something…

tonight after eating some yummy ribs with our neighbors rob, megan, and alena… we were going to finish off the brown sugar icing cake and realized that nick did not get the “happy birthday” song sung to him on his birthday! so we took care of that…. along with a nice number 2 candle megan found. good times!

happy birthday nick!

well… on june 3, nicky turned the big 24. if any of you do not know, i LOVE birthdays. this may sound selfish but my favorite day of the year is my birthday. haha… BUT… i feel loved when i receive gifts and affirmation, and birthdays seems to bring both of those to me. so i dont love my birthday because i get gifts or affirmation, but because i feel SO loved and love seeing and talking to so many of my favorite people on the same day…. all that to say, nick has never cared much about his birthday. there isn’t really a specific reason, but to him its not a big deal. SO. i was a little determined to make him feel really loved and make him have his birthday be his 4th favorite day of the year (behind easter, christmas, and march madness).

the minor tie up to this plan was that nick worked from 9-5 and i worked from 12:30-7:45…. SO. i had to do some planning. i sent him about 20 texts throughout the day. had notes and a fun playlist waiting for him when he got home… and i actually started on tuesday night by telling him happy birthday about 1293 times. the day ended up being a big success. he felt loved and enjoyed the fun gifts and he even told me on thursday he still was excited about how great his birthday was. needless to say, i’m already planning his 25th birthday and i think its safe to say he’s looking forward to it 🙂 here are some pics….

so that was nick’s birthday. he loved it, and i loved it too! so it was a good day…

we are enjoying another weekend off. nick is playing basketball and getting the oil changed. good times. i’m catching up with some friends, painting, and reading… such a good saturday. tonight we are going to attempt to go see a night at the museum 2… last night we tried but it was sold out. so we settled for playing hot shots golf 3 on our newly acquired playstation 2 from my brother. i think i’m up on nick 5-2 in out match play games… he gets a little frustrated and is constantly saying ” i would never do this in real life!!!” but i remind him that we’re just having fun 🙂 tomorrow night, we will most def watch the magic game and hope to see them rebound. literally and figuratively. and just a shout out to nick’s dad… if jj can stop kobe, i hope we play jj the whole game! until later…. go magic and enjoy the weekend!
