A taste of Europe

First for the not so European.  I’m two weeks into Summer Hebrew.  It’s not bad, but it’s certainly not as fun as Greek or Latin.  It just hasn’t clicked as fast.  Maybe in another few weeks I’ll have figured it all out.

The excitement, however, is one of my delayed birthday presents.  For my birthday in June, my parents (Thanks mom and dad!) funded a trip a July 24th-25th trip to Baltimore and Washington, DC.  I left yesterday (Friday) afternoon, and the trip got off to a rather inauspicious start.  Not 20 minutes into my drive, this happened:

Not only did the rock hit my windshield so hard so as to blow the glass back into the car and in my lap, it also left a spider web of cracks spiraling from the impact crater.  So be careful when you’re driving on I-295.

But even with the bad start, I made it through traffic and to Baltimore in time to get a good parking spot for the main attraction of the weekend.  I met up with Taylor, my best friend from college, who I haven’t seen since my wedding, for the AC Milan-Chelsea soccer game.  For those of you who aren’t big soccer fans, these are two of the biggest European soccer teams, so the game was at the Baltimore Ravens stadium, which sold out. Over 71,000 people were there, and the game was broadcast on ESPN.

It turned out to be a really exciting game which Chelsea ended up winning 2-1.  All of the goals were phenomenal, especially the first one by Drogba, for which we had a great view. Please enjoy the italian.

After the game we crashed at Taylor’s place in DC, played tennis this morning (Saturday) and then grabbed some lunch before I headed back to Jersey.  It was great to see Taylor, and even better that he’s gonna come up to Princeton next weekend to hang out.  So now, it’s back to studying some Hebrew and relaxing for the rest of the weekend.    Laila Tov!  (Good night in Hebrew)

independence, a wedding, and geebee!

so… do you ever get to that point where you know there is a blog that needs to be written and the amount of fun things that have happened since you last posted is almost overwhelming!? yes. i am about at this place. here is my attempt to tackle this problem.

so, the last time i posted it was july 4th which was a super fun day for us. we enjoyed a cookout with some neighbors before attempting (unsuccessfully) to go watch some fireworks. one fun thing about the 4th is that we met some new friends. jenn and victor are from houston and this is their first year. we’ve been able to hang out with them during the past few weeks and are so thankful that they are here in new jersey! but back to fireworks… this frustration was remedied when we learned that pretty much the whole week of july 4th there are townships that do fireworks every night we we were able to catch them on sunday night.

the next weekend was an insane trip to highlands, nc for my friend katie’s wedding. it was about 12 hours away from princeton, so needless to say we finished listening to the 6th harry potter on cd. the wedding was so great. katie’s parents put us up at the old edwards inn. talk about living the life… all i have to say is that the tiles in the bathroom floor were heated. woah. we had a great time seeing katie get married as well as catching up with some fun florida people. katie was beautiful and we were so glad to get to come! p.s. we took a quick video on the road. its kind of shaky. my bad.

where we had the bridesmaids luncheon, what you can't see is that its on the side of a mountain.

and finally, this past weekend, my amazing grandmother geebee took the train and came to visit us! we had a fantastic time. we enjoyed just hanging out on friday. saturday i drove her to “my gym” and she was able to see a little bit of what i do. we hit a local farmers market and then stopped by michaels to get some paints. i cooked dinner for her, as well as our new friends jenna and victor and we had a lovely and fun night! sunday we went to church, watched some golf, and spent some time at the pool before geebee treated us to dinner! that is just a brief summary, and i wish we would have taken pictures!! but all that to say, it was so fun having geebee here. i am so glad she made the trip and i can’t wait till we can see her again at thanksgiving!

in between all of these fun weekend has been a whole lot of working. i seem to be working more now that im director, and nick has started hebrew classes. pretty intense. but we’re doing pretty well. i think that is all for now but just wanted to check in. thanks for being patient. hope we post again sometime before october. much love from the jerz.

haddonfield, ticket to ride, and a promotion!

well hello from the jerz… we’ve been busy since we got back from florida, so i thought i would post an update!

first, i am in the middle of taking on online traffic school so this is helping me pass the time. they make you spend 50 minutes on a section that in reality only take 20 min… so i must wait until the time has expired and then i will continue on! (while in fl for my brother’s wedding, i got a speeding ticket. it was lame. so now i am doing this so i don’t get points on my license, and so that our insurance doesn’t go up! good times.

alright… now i must give some credit to nick. i was having an less than great day, and he shows up with 2 dozen red roses. woah. in our entire relationship, he has never given me two two dozen red roses. needless to say, it was a wonderful surprise and they have lasted beautifully! here is a peak.

another cool thing that has happened in the past week was a quick jaunt down to haddonfield, nj. my aunt teri and uncle tim, who live in san francisco were visiting tim’s parents for their 60th wedding anniversary (WOW!). it was only 45 minutes away so we were able to drive down for a delicious dinner, and the uncle tim showed us around the town. i have yet to be able to nail down why it felt different than princeton, but it just did. it was very quaint. alot of the town was preserved from the colonial and pre-civil war era. it was awesome, then we went back to tim’s parents house and were able to have dessert with the happily married couple on the actual day of their anniversary. i ask tim’s mom if she had any advise, and she said a few days before her wedding her father told her… let your husband always think he’s right. i think that was well put, and i will certainly remember that. nick you are definitely right about driving the speed limit at all time 😉

last night was a combination of two fun things! the big news in the nielsen apt is that i got a promotion at My Gym! i am now the director of My Gym South Brunswick, and am really excited about it! i am taking on more responsibility of leading the staff, as well as continuing to lead class. the gym has been doing really well and i am really excited about the new ways i am able to help out there. i really do love what i do, and am grateful that his happened so quickly!

after learning about my promotion, my parents generously offered to treat us to a celebration dinner! so last night we went out to steak house called KC Prime. it was really good. i mean you can’t really go wrong with steak. we enjoyed ourselves greatly, and even treated ourselves to coldstone after dinner! i think i need to get promotions more often.

all around, an awesome dinner! then, the fun continued. we went over to our friend’s dan and leslie’s and played a new game we learned called ticket to ride. we are obsessed! it is fun and strategic, and needless to say we were there till midnight. good times. we can’t wait to play again!

today has been good thus far. during the course of writing this blog i have continued my traffic school and now have 29 minutes before i can take my test. so i’m almost done with that! tonight we are going to cook out with a group of seminary people and then head to rider university to see their annual fireworks show. i am def most excited about the fireworks show! ill leave you with some patriotic music to get you all set for the day! happy 4th everybody!

side note: when i had to sing this song every morning at windermere elementary school, i though that when they said “and i won’t forget the man who died who gave that right to me,” i def thought they were talked about jesus. which is TRUE, but not what lee greenwood was talking about. i also thought that the land of the brave was talking about the atlanta braves. i guess i was a little confused.
